Loretto’s Grace comes fifth in world golf championship

Eight-year-old Loretto pupil Grace Crawford secures fifth place in the US Kids Golf World Championship

More than 1,000 youngsters took part in the competition at Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina, making it the largest and most prestigious event in the world for players from six to 12 years old.

It’s not the first time Grace has shone in this competition – last year she achieved sixth place in the girls’ seven and under category.

This year, Grace has gone one better by finishing in fifth place in the Girls Eight section at the US Kids Golf World Championships with 2-par rounds and a final round of +3. The weather was demanding too – Grace played at midday in temperatures reaching 43 degrees!

Loretto School was delighted with their pupil’s success in America.

Director of External Affairs at Loretto School, Jonathan Hewat, said:  “Grace did so well to come in fifth place. We are all absolutely delighted for her. What an achievement to have done so well in such a big tournament. Just to have been selected to take part in the tournament is a feather in anyone’s cap, but to get that final position is an incredible achievement. We are all very proud here at Loretto.”
