New sixth form centre for Rydal Penrhos

The new facility will be begin construction shortly following fundraising campaign

Work has begun on Rydal Penrhos’ Sixth Form Ferguson Centre following a successful fundraising campaign to renovate the facility.

The school’s Annual Fund campaign centred on the renovation of the Centre, and after a host of generous donations from people associated with the school, a total of £90,487 was raised in just over four months.

The project was instigated by a pupil team led by Morgan Roberts and Anna Richardson.

In addition to sixth form use, the centre will also be utilised by the entire Rydal Penrhos community and will host social events, concerts, drama performances and charity events.

Construction teams moved into the site earlier this week, and work is expected to be completed by the start of the new academic year in September. The Ferguson Centre’s officially opening is scheduled to take place during Founders’ Weekend, and an area of the building will be named in honour of former pupil and world-renowned film producer Duncan Kenworthy OBE, who made a significant donation to the cause.

Head of Sixth Form, Peter Lavery, said: “I recently spoke to our lower sixth form about what legacy they want to leave behind during their Leadership course, and this is a prime example of what can be achieved to contribute to Rydal Penrhos life despite the pressures of exams and university application. We are so proud of the project, and once again we would like to thank everyone that donated and made the dream become a reality.”
