New head stands on peaks of experience

Jonathan Standen will open a new chapter for Plymouth College, in 2015, following the retirement of incumbent head a decade on

Mr Jonathon Standen will take on the headship in April 2015, when current the Head – Dr Simon Wormleighton – retires after nine years.

With a degree in Ancient History and History, Mr Standen began his education career as a History and Politics teacher. He then filled several Wiltshire-based positions, including deputy headmaster at St Augustine’s Catholic College and Bishop Wordsworth’s School, in addition to assistant headteacher at Hardenhuish School.

Mr Standen has spent the last eight years of his life at the helm of independent state school, The Crypt School in Gloucester. In that time the school gained Academy status and achieved ‘outstanding’ in every category of its most recent OFSTED Inspection.

A qualified ski instructor, keen cyclist and golfer, and former cricket coach, Mr Standen is a firm advocate of extra-curricular involvement, and hopes to carry this into this new post.

Chairman of governors at Plymouth College, Chris Robinson, says: “We are delighted to welcome Jonathan Standen as the fifteenth Headmaster of Plymouth College. He brings a wealth of experience to the position and we look forward to working with him.”
