Pro coaches to tutor future cricket stars

Talented cricketers at Rydal Penrhos school to benefit from learning from two former professionals

Joining former Glamorgan bowler Will Owen at Rydal Penrhos is Indian all-rounder Shrikant Mundhe, who has signed for Liverpool and District Premier Division side Colwyn Bay and will be working with the school as part of his deal.

The former IPL star with Pune Warriors becomes the second ex-pro to coach at Rydal Penrhos this year, with Prestatyn resident Owen gaining widespread praise for the work he has done at the school since arriving in October.

The 27 year-old recently travelled to Packwood Haugh School to give their U13 side a special session, and his recent High Performance Centre gave elite cricketers the chance to hone their skills under the watchful eye of a former county star.

Mundhe’s arrival continues the good links between Colwyn Bay and Rydal Penrhos, with former pupil Matt Thomas making a name for himself for the first and second sides this season.

Current lower sixth pupil Jack Sissons is also expected to start training with the Penrhyn Avenue outfit once the school cricket fixtures have been completed.

Director of Sport, Allen Boyd, said: “We are extremely fortunate to have two former professionals coaching here at Rydal Penrhos, which is the perfect platform for our players to develop.

“Shrikant is a very well thought of cricketer with a lot to offer our pupils, while the work Will has done here since his arrival has been exemplary.

“We are very proud of our association with Colwyn Bay Cricket Club and Shrikant has a wealth of experience that will be of great benefit to our pupils in the coming months.”
