Rugby success for Rydal Penrhos

Three players from the school participated in a regional competition with great success last week

Finlay Hare and Sam Bixby, Year 10 pupils at the school, together with Year 9 sports scholar Josh Lynch, were part of the RGC West U15 squad that competed at the Dewas Super 12 tournament, which was held at Christ College Brecon over the half term break.

The young North Walians began the event with an outstanding victory over Cynon Valley, before turning in another stylish performance in their triumph over Cardiff A.

This was followed by a narrow 3-1 loss to Pontypridd Schools, but their previous two efforts managed to secure their cup final berth against Newport Schools.

One last magnificent effort from RGC West after a gruelling tournament saw them emerge victorious and claim the cup, with further highlights the impressive young rugby talent situated throughout the region.

Rydal Penrhos pupils have enjoyed an enormous amount of success with RGC thanks to their Rugby Academy partnership, which has seen the programme produce a host of senior squad players in addition to Welsh internationals.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Congratulations to Fin, Josh and Sam on their fantastic cup victory with RGC West, which is a testament to how hard they have worked throughout the year to make a name for themselves with the regional side.”

“This was a competition littered with some fantastic talent from across the country, and to see them performing so well will stand them in extremely good stead for the future.”
