School marks More than a Centenary

Moreton School welcomed back former staff and Friends to its grounds last month, to mark the Moreton Centenary

The Centenary reunion began with a Service of Celebration at St Oswald’s Church, with the address given by Rev. Evelyn Davies MBE, a former staff member from the 1970s-90s. Moreton first performed ‘I the Lord of Sea and Sky’ and the Chamber Choir sang ‘Waters of Babylon’ by Tim Mills, specially commissioned for the Moreton Hall Centenary.

During the Service, OM and Actress Sheila Reid (1954) gave a reading from the TS Eliot’s ‘The Four Quartets’, while present-day Moreton was represented by students from years 10 -12.

Back at Moreton, a drinks reception and lunch was waiting for the Old Moretonians. Speeches from Jonathan Forster and Amanda Arthur, President of the OMA, followed, while Matthew Dennison read from ‘A Centenary Portrait of Moreton Hall’.

Year 12 students offered a tour of the school, before the day culminated with tea and scones on the pitches, while watching a lacrosse match between the 1st XI and the OMs.
