The school, near Wokingham, has enjoyed a full academic year of their two new buildings: a dining hall with IT department and first floor classrooms, plus a separate double classroom block. The dining hall was recently ‘Highly Commended’ in the School Building Award category at the Education Business Awards 2017.
The 910m2 dining block development allows the school to sit lunch in two sittings, and incorporates a full commercial kitchen. On the first floor, there are classrooms, a common room and an IT suite. In addition to this two-storey building, the school also commissioned a Schoolhaus® double classroom building to be completed simultaneously.

These Schoolhaus® developments have improved and expanded Holme Grange’s facilities and both were completed during the summer of 2016. And, as is the case with all Schoolhaus® developments, they deliver substantial energy savings thanks to Schoolhaus® ultra-efficient design, and the clean renewable energy generated from the dining block’s solar PV roof. The development re-enforces Schoolhaus®’ status as the UK’s most energy efficient school buildings.
Neil Gething, Commercial Director at Net Zero Buildings, said: “We really enjoyed working with Holme Grange School. The timetable was tight but the results are there for all to see. I think users are enjoying the new facilities and the savings for the school are substantial, in terms of lower energy and maintenance costs. Two independent reports – from engineering groups Arup and MAMG – calculate the lifecycle cost savings to the school at circa £807,333 over 20 years and £2,575,074 over 50 years.”
