Small school wins big

A small independent prep school in Derby is celebrating its most successful football season to date

The Old Vicarage School hosts 18 tournaments in various sports – including football, netball, hockey, rugby sevens, cricket, rounders and tennis – throughout the year for different age groups of boys and girls from schools locally and nationally. This term has seen the school enjoy its most successful football season to date.

The boys and girls who play in the teams have won tournaments at all age levels. For the first time ever, the school achieved a ‘clean sweep’ in its own football tournaments, winning the u9, u11, u12 and u13 six-a-side competitions. The school was also runners-up at the six-a-side tournament hosted by Foremarke Hall School, losing to Altringham Prep in the final. Finally, OVS was also declared The Independent Schools Association u10 Midlands champions at a tournament hosted by Dixie Grammar Junior School. “This was particularly pleasing as our team included three of our talented u8 players,” says the school. “As a smaller school, it is wonderful that all the children get the opportunity to represent their school teams in matches – and equally pleasing that, due to our team spirit, we often win matches against much larger schools. We are hoping for similar success in our netball, hockey and rugby sevens tournaments next term!”
