The Hampshire School pupils had the opportunity to display their talents to peers and to parents, while also hearing from inspirational professional artists who visited the school to give guest speeches. The building itself was also decorated in 300 or so artworks created by pupils.
The school was joined by a professional artist on each of the festival’s three days. Dancer Kate-Anne Fenton, currently touring with musical show Crazy For You, spoke to children and taught them a short routine from her production. Recently-announced cast member of Hamilton and former Strictly Come Dancing performer, Christopher Tendai, also taught children a short routine from one of his previous shows.

Every year group, from Early Years through to Year 8, put on their own performance across the exhibition’s three days. For Year 1 it was a musical show, as they entertained the audience with song. Years 2 and 3 showed off their international dance skills, with the former performing an Indian routine and the latter a South African Pata Pata dance.
The following day, Year 4 performed a scary dance, dressed as skeletons, while Year 5 took a different approach – showing off their basketball skills in a routine carried out to music. Year 6’s show also held an element of sport, as they performed artistic gymnastics.

On the festival’s final day it was the turn of The Hampshire School’s senior pupils. Year 7 opted for a dance performance to the tune of Waka Waka, while Year 8 performed a piece of music known from Pirates of the Caribbean. The festival was rounded off by the school’s own band – 5 Dimensions – who performed Light it Up.
Headmaster of the school Mr Brennan said: “Performance really matters and it was fantastic to see such an array of artistic talent from all pupils in the school. A strong arts programme underpins all learning and we pride ourselves on events such as this one.”
