Trent College in Long Eaton is preparing to host its first of the popular ‘unconference’ teaching event TeachMeet on 30 June.
This year, TeachMeet celebrates its 10th anniversary of providing informal, organised forums for teachers to learn from and inspire each other, sharing ideas and best practice from their real classroom and school experiences.
Growth Mindset advocate and Leeds-based Head, Martin Blacoe, will be the guest speaker at the free event, which welcomes all secondary school teachers from 6pm.
TeachMeet events are characterised by their short, sharp presentations, high energy round table discussions and range of speakers to really give teachers new concepts and inspiration to take back to their own classrooms.
Kate Pallett, part of the Teaching and Learning Team at Trent College, has organised this inaugural school event. She admits she was motivated by her own TeachMeet experiences to bring an event to the school.
“I’ve been to several TeachMeet events and each has been inspirational, with ideas I could begin using in my own classroom the very next day,” she said. “Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities vary in their effectiveness, but TeachMeet is by teachers, for teachers, which makes a huge difference.
“Martin Blacoe is an inspirational and innovative Headteacher and Osiris (CPD) trainer who will be discussing the impact of Growth Mindset on his school. Anyone can share great ideas they have trialled in their own classrooms, best practice within their own schools or simply come along and listen to the stories of others. We look forward to welcoming old friends and new faces to Trent College.”
