Wellington School’s sporting advantage

A dynamic new department will underpin Wellington School’s growing sporting excellence

Led by ex-Somerset County Cricketer and rugby pro Steffan Jones, a new Sports Performance and Wellbeing department will deliver a pioneering new curriculum and a whole new approach to fitness and sport for Wellington School. The new department will be responsible for coaching sport to all pupils in the school regardless of age and ability, and will pioneer a new wellbeing element that will educate young people on important lifestyle features such as diet, fitness and body image.

Elements of sports psychology and sports analysis will also be on the curriculum, and new classes in activities such as body pump, pilates and dance will gradually become available to all students. This new development will form part of the School’s overall reorganisation of its co-curricular provision, forming a key part of the all round education provided by the School.

‘I am delighted to have been appointed Director of Sports Performance and Wellbeing and I am looking forward to the prospect of leading Wellington School on to a new chapter of sporting greatness,” commented Steffan Jones.  “The mission of the new Sports Performance and Wellbeing Department is to inspire, educate and encourage the next generation to pursue a lifetime of health. Whether a pupils’ aspiration is to reach professional sport or simply to participate, we aim to empower them with the knowledge and skills required to make a sporting difference and positively impact on their health and wellbeing.

“This development supports our whole School philosophy of educating the whole child and providing a range of opportunities beyond the classroom,” commented Headmaster Henry Price.  “We are confident that this new approach will enhance the entire learning experience for our pupils and reinforce the messages of physical and emotional wellbeing as a cornerstone of education.”

Steffan Jones will be supported by a team of new expert sports coaches.
