A&S Landscape discuss the benefits of MUGA’s and how one has made a big difference at Haileybury
Jo Golding
Multi-Use Games Areas, or MUGA’s as they are known, are becoming increasingly popular as schools and councils respect the need for young people to be active outdoors.
Providing a MUGA which is covered means that this exercise can continue all year round. Covered MUGA’s can also relieve congested indoor areas and get students outside even in bad weather.
Floodlights can be included to add many hours of extra playing time to your facility, allowing for a more flexible programme of activities and a wider range of groups to be accommodated. This can also allow the space to be rented outside of school hours and to serve as a revenue stream. A wide range of fencing and surfacing options are available.
The Covered Muga™ from A&S Landscape (specialists in canopies) is manufactured to your bespoke design and is ideal for larger sports pitches and play areas, such as those found at private schools, senior schools, colleges and municipal properties.
Haileybury case study
You can hear first-hand in this video, how the new MUGA at Haileybury in Hertfordshire made a real difference to pupils. The time-lapse video of the installation gives a real insight into the process and the stages of build.
A spokesperson for the school said: “Haileybury is an independent school in leafy Hertfordshire and caters for children from eleven to eighteen. We were looking for a new covered playground, as the old one had seen better days, and we had a little look on Google and fortunately, we came across a company called A&S Landscape, who we immediately found to be very efficient and who provided a wonderful first draft for us.
“We worked with them closely until we had what is now a gorgeous finished project. The staff were very, very helpful. From the very start A&S Landscape were clearly the company to go with. They were very accommodating and worked very well with Haileybury as a school.
“The project only took a few weeks as these projects tend to do, but it went very well and we are over the moon. The finished product is amazing. Everyone who has seen the finished product is absolutely overjoyed and the children can’t wait to start playing in it.
“We didn’t only ask A&S to provide the covered playground. We also asked for a couple of table tennis tables and items of garden furniture, which they installed as part of the project. We are incredibly pleased.”
