Rugby cricketers set to star in The Hundred

Jacob Bethell and Maia Bouchier, current and former pupils at Rugby School, will play in the limited overs competition this summer

Two young cricketers associated with Rugby School are set to star when The Hundred returns for a second season in August.

Jacob Bethell, currently in his last term at the school, will represent Cardiff-based Welsh Fire in the 100-ball format. Raised in Barbados and offered a sports scholarship at Rugby aged 13, Bethell played for England in the U-19s’ cricket World Cup in the West Indies earlier this year.

Maia Bouchier, meanwhile, will once again represent Southern Brave, based in Southampton. The 23-year-old former Rugby pupil played for the Brave in last year’s inaugural competition, helping them make the final by scoring 92 runs at a strike rate of 143.75.

Bouchier overcame suspension for what was adjudged to be an illegal bowling action in October 2020, making her international debut for the England women’s cricket team less than a year later, before heading to Australia to compete in the Women’s Ashes at the beginning of 2022.
