More than 1,000 people received an award and, in total, about 10% of this year’s honours are for work in education, including a knighthood for Dr David Collins, first Further Education Commissioner, and a knighthood for Professor Paul Curran, VC of City University, London.
Prof Curran has been chair of the Universities and Colleges Employers Association since 2011. In that role, he has helped to negotiate a series of often below-inflation pay rises for staff.
The University of Leicester’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Boyle, has been appointed a CBE. Prof Boyle, who has led Leicester since October 2014, has been recognised for his contribution to social science while Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council. This issue, Paul tells us about his plans for Leicester’s future growth.
With these leading lights continuing to improve and grow our sector, I have every confidence that 2016 is going to be a great year for HE.
Happy new year!
