University applications: key dates for 2016

As the year draws to a close, university application deadlines are in sight - here are the dates for your diary

In the coming weeks, students across the country will be sending those all-important applications to gain their dream university place and secure their future career chances. 

Key dates

The Which? University team have shared their top tips for applicants shortlisting their top five courses in the coming weeks: 

  • Try to select a mix of ambitious, on-target and safe course choices, based on predicted grades – these will generally form the basis of a University’s decision to accept or decline an application
  • Dig into the detail of each course shortlisted, as there may be subject-specific or GCSE entry requirements to meet
  • Pick a courses based on places applicants would realistically, be happy to go to – not two or three you like and a couple of ‘filler’ courses not properly researched
  • Think long-term. Applicants will be studying this course for the next few years, and beyond that they’ll need to consider the career path the course could lead to
  • Look at the course content, likely contact and study hours and assessment processes, as these vary from university to university
  • If applicants are unsure of what courses to go for, take a look at the Which?University website to search for appropriate course options based on your predicted A-level grades
