Pupils studying Shakespeare at Bournemouth Collegiate School (BCS) have received video monologues from actor Ralph Ineson to inspire them with their schoolwork.

BCS, and many other independent schools, have taken their learning online since coronavirus meant schools had to close. Pupils have since been following the usual curriculum from their homes.

Ineson, who was once a drama teacher, has starred in Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Office and many more popular TV shows and films. Known for his deep, rumbling voice and Yorkshire accent, Ineson has also done voicework.

He has just finished filming The Tragedy of Macbeth in the US with actor Denzel Washington and director Joel Cohen.

BCS pupils are currently studying Macbeth and will create their own versions of the ‘If it were done when ‘tis done, then ‘twere well it were done quickly’ monologue at the end of Act 1, submitted in audio or film format.

“We hope to invite Ralph back to critique some of their monologues, quite a bit of pressure to be placed under but an exciting opportunity for the students,” said Maria Coulter, deputy head of BCS.

“We also are looking to combine a professional actor with the work of 14 year olds to produce Macbeth, in the future as we return to some normality. We would love to see how we can incorporate this work into the Shakespeare Schools Festival.”

Ineson was educated at Pocklington School, an independent school in Yorkshire.
