E-assessed qualifications in the future

Cambridge Assessment has signed a new five-year deal with education technology company, TAG Assessment

TAG Assessment, a producer of evidence-based assessment tools, has been awarded a five-year contract by Cambridge Assessment Group, which owns and manages the Oxford, Cambridge and RSA (OCR), Cambridge International Examinations and Cambridge English, exams boards.

TAG will be supplying OCR with its LiveAssess, MAPS and Red Pen Tool solutions, to help the awarding body establish end-to-end e-assessment capabilities across a number of its popular vocational qualifications. TAG’s portfolio of assessment solutions will enable Cambridge Assessment to reliably capture and measure students ‘soft-skills’, such as creativity, collaboration and problem solving.

Charlotte Bosworth, Director of Skills and Employment at OCR commented: “Our aim is to ensure that we have a range of online assessment tools that are efficient, high quality and also easy to use.  We feel that our partnership with TAG Assessment provides us with these capabilities and are looking forward to delivering a number of our vocational assessments through this platform.’

“Students participating in certain OCR qualifications will now be able to capture digital evidence of the final output of their work and the learning journey they have been on to arrive at it,” says Matt Wingfield, Managing Director of TAG Assessment. ‘Furthermore, this work can also now be handed-in, marked and submitted all electronically.”

Live Assess will help assessors capture structured coursework, who will electronically mark and annotate it using TAG’s Red Pen Tool, an intuitive on-screen marking and annotation solution. This work will then be securely submitted to OCR for moderation. Underpinning the entire process is TAG’s online management system, MAPS, a suite of tools that will enable OCR to publish, manage, electronically accept, verify and moderate coursework-based qualifications. This technology will allow Cambridge Assessment to scale its e-assessed qualifications to an increasing number of learners and schools. It will also help them to support a much broader range of qualifications in future.

Established in 1858 and originally named The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), The Cambridge Assessment Group owns and manages the University’s three exam boards – Oxford, Cambridge and RSA (OCR), Cambridge International Examinations and Cambridge English It is now Europe’s largest assessment agency and operates in over 150 countries, playing a leading role in developing and delivering assessment across the world.
