Edmodo, the world’s largest, free primary and secondary social learning platform connecting more than 30 million teachers and pupils, has announced the extension of premium educational applications to the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.
Available in the Edmodo Store for purchase, these premium apps are offered in addition to free apps, which have been accessible to teachers and pupils internationally since August 2013.
“Teachers are always seeking innovative content to improve instruction,” said Heath Silverman, head of international business at Edmodo. “Extending premium apps to these three regions provides our partners with a new avenue to reach educational audiences around the world and enhance both pupil learning and teacher professional development.”
Housing more than 500 apps spanning subject areas ranging from maths and science to language arts to classroom management tools, the Edmodo Store is continually adding new developers and apps. Currently featured premium app developers include Edukey Education, Backchannel Chat, Zondle, Bongo LLP, and 10monkeys.com.
“This new channel in the UK market offers our UK-based company the opportunity to provide local teachers with a wide range of quality educational resources to encourage and support learners,” said Steve Cushing, partner of Bongo LLP.
“With a new National Curriculum coming to England in September 2014, the Edmodo Store will be a useful place for teachers to secure top class resources to support them during a period of great change,” added Ben Barton, chief executive officer of Zondle. “Our wide user base in the UK and Australia has eagerly awaited the availability of our apps in the Edmodo Store, and we look forward to continue innovating new content.”
Used in over 220,000 schools worldwide, Edmodo integrates app partners into its vast network of more than 30 million teachers and pupils, resulting in increased installs and app adoption for its partners. “Edmodo has played a significant role in the growing adoption of our Class Charts app,” said Duncan Wilson, founder of Edukey Education. “In just 12 months, they’ve helped us reach 60,000 teachers and more than two million pupils, and with the availability of our apps now extended to new markets, we expect this growth to continue quickly.”
Similarly, the expanded offering of premium educational apps provides more Edmodo teachers with increased access to valuable tools that can enhance their lesson plans. “We’ve been part of Edmodo’s network for the past year inspiring real-time communication among teachers and pupils in the U.S. with our app, and we look forward to engaging teachers in these new territories,” added Daniel Pollard, chief executive officer of Backchannel Chat. “This announcement is particularly timely for the Australian market as the school year is just ramping up and teachers are looking for new content to leverage in their classrooms.”
