Rydal Penrhos is to introduce a GCSE engineering course from September. The school says the move is “part of ongoing improvements under executive principal John Waszek, senior school head Sally Ann Harding, and Rydal Penrhos’ governing body”.
The new course is the latest in a series of changes implemented by the school in recent weeks, as part of its Project Bold initiative. Among other changes are the addition of computer science to the Years 7-9 curriculum, and 20 A-level subjects made available to sixth formers.
Pupils studying the new engineering course will be assessed through a mixture of exams and controlled internal assessments. They will also be provided with the opportunity to carry out research independently, participate in group work, role play, go on trips, use real business resources, and benefit from the advice of people working in the field.
Harding said: “GCSE engineering is a practical, exciting and useful subject, and is a valuable opportunity for practically minded pupils. It is sure to capture the imagination of anyone with a passion or interest in the engineering profession.”
