Girls’ school hosts ‘Oxbridge & Best’ Seminar

Pupils from Burgess Hill School for Girls and other schools recently attended an ‘Oxbridge & Best’ admissions event

Years 10 and 11 and Lower Sixth students at Burgess Hill School for Girls, along with groups from The Royal Docks Community School in London and Warden Park Academy, attended a seminar presented by admissions tutors from Oxford, Cambridge and Bath universities on  February 4 2015.

Following an introduction from the school’s head girl, Sally Emerson, who has a conditional offer to read maths at Cambridge, the students listened to a series of presentations on higher education and the application process from Emma Bausch, Oriel College, Oxford, Dr Samantha Lucy, Newnham College, Cambridge and Mike Nicholson, University of Bath.

Careers adviser Judith Edey said: “It was a very informative and stimulating afternoon for the girls who were given the very latest information available concerning applying to the top universities in the UK. The speakers provided practical information about choosing the right university. Mike Nicholson from University of Bath not only focused on the academic choices at university but imparted anecdotal tales about the importance of learning domestic survival skills such as budgeting, cooking and using a launderette before going up to university!”

An evening session was also held for parents with speaker Dr Lucy from Cambridge University.
