Heather Stanning to lecture at Loretto on mental health

Double Olympic gold medal winner to give lecture at Loretto School for UK’s leading veterans’ mental health charity

Double Olympic gold medal winning rower and Army Officer, Captain Heather Stanning MBE RA, has been announced as the guest speaker at a lecture hosted by Loretto School and organised jointly with veterans’ mental health charity Combat Stress.

Heather will speak at Combat Stress’ Autumn Lecture, which will take place on 6 October at Loretto School near Edinburgh.

A serving Captain in the Royal Artillery, Heather, along with her rowing partner Helen Glover, was victorious at the Rio 2016 Olympics, winning a gold medal in the Women’s coxless pair. This was Heather’s second Olympic gold medal after her previous success at the 2012 London Olympics, winning the first ever British Olympic gold medal in women’s rowing. Heather is an inspiring speaker with extensive experience of managing competing demands, whilst handling pressure at the highest levels.

Jonathan Hewat, Director of Communications at Loretto School, said: “Heather’s recent win in Rio was fabulous and we do congratulate her.”

“She has worked hard to become both an Army Officer and a successful athlete. She is a fantastic role model and an inspirational speaker and we are delighted to have her join us at Loretto as a guest speaker at the Combat Stress Scotland Autumn Lecture. This promises to be a really exciting event.

“Combat Stress continues to see an increase in the number of veteran referrals they receive each year.  It is therefore vital that the awareness is raised and that we support for the charity in order to meet this increasing demand. Events such as this lecture are a fantastic way for us to do this.”
