Ipswich High appoints new head of prep school

Lisa Finch will take up her new role at Easter

Lisa Finch has been announced as the new head of the prep school at Ipswich High.

She will join the school at Easter, when outgoing head, Eileen Fisher, will depart for a new founding headship in China.

Finch comes to Ipswich from her current post as headteacher of Stanway Fiveways Primary School in Essex. Her leadership was described by an external review as “inspirational” and “dynamic”.

Oona Carlin, head of Ipswich High School, said: “We are thrilled to announce Lisa Finch as the new head of the prep school. She brings with her incredible commitment to prep school age education and a wealth of leadership experience, which will see our prep school go from strength to strength.”

I look forward to continuing to build upon the exceptional reputation of the prep school as it grows and develops in the future

Finch and her husband, Sean, have two daughters, one of whom is in Year 10 at Ipswich High School, while the other is studying at university. While her background and degree specialism was drama and theatre, she is also “hugely interested” in PE and numeracy education, and is a qualified special educational needs coordinator.

Ipswich High School has recently welcomed boys into the prep school and sixth form, and has begun to teach via the Diamond Model approach, which is unique in Suffolk. In September, the school will welcome boys into the senior school, as well as boarders into their brand new boarding house, The Dairy.

Finch said: “I am delighted to be joining Ipswich High School at such an exciting and progressive time in the school’s history. I look forward to continuing to build upon the exceptional reputation of the prep school as it grows and develops in the future.”
