Carl Howarth is the latest school leader to join the GSA

The principal of Jersey College for Girls, Carl Howarth, is the latest school leader to join the Girls’ Schools Association, which represents the heads of UK independent girls’ schools and promotes the benefits of girls being taught in a girls-only environment.

Charlotte Avery, President (2017) of the GSA, said:’We are delighted to welcome Carl and Jersey College for Girls to the GSA and look forward to introducing him to our network of heads and other expert educationalists.’

Leading an all-girls school is a privilege and joining the GSA network of leading girls’ schools across the UK, which works so hard for its members, will be beneficial to our students and staff

Its 740 students, aged 11 – 18, achieve well academically, benefit from excellent teaching and state-of-the-art facilities, and go on to study at good universities both in the UK and throughout the world.

Carl is married to Fiona and they have one son and one daughter. He is also a governor of the Institute of Law, a member of the Lions Club of Jersey, and a trustee and director of The Jersey Employment Trust, which is dedicated to supporting people with disabilities and long term health conditions find meaningful employment.

Commenting on his appointment, Carl said: ‘Leading an all-girls school is a privilege and joining the GSA network of leading girls’ schools across the UK, which works so hard for its members, will be beneficial to our students and staff.
