King’s Ely students shine in maths challenge

More than 50 of the school’s pupils won awards in this year’s Intermediate Maths Challenge

56 awards in this year’s Intermediate Maths Challenge were claimed by King’s Ely students.

Over 200,000 school pupils from across the UK took part in the competition, which is organised each year by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT). King’s Ely students won 21 Gold awards, 10 Silver and 25 Bronze prizes this year.

Head of Mathematics at King’s Ely, Audrienne Bezzina, said: “Our students’ achievements in the Intermediate Maths Challenge this year were fantastic. Roughly only the top 6% of students achieve a Gold certificate, the next 13% Silver and the next 21% Bronze. From the original entrants, only one in 400 are invited to take part in the Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad papers and around 11 in 400 are invited to sit the European Kangaroo papers. The follow-on rounds will be held later on in March and we wish all of our mathematicians the best of luck.”
