Leading the way for learning

Prof Brian Cox is just one of the keynote speakers inspiring educators from across the independent sector at the Education Show 2014

As we begin a new year, we face two clear facts: enrolment numbers in UK independent schools have and are continuing to fall, and parents around the country will face increasing financial constraints.

For independent schools, this adds an additional layer to consider when planning for the future; it is a time for clear action. It is important therefore that school leaders have access to the insight and information needed to support this.

The Education Show 2014 has been designed to address this issue head-on, providing teachers, leaders and support staff in independent schools throughout the UK with the help and advice they need. Bigger and better than ever, an informative series of free continuing professional development (CPD) seminars, keynote speakers and targeted conferences have been developed especially for 2014 and are all free of charge.

Particle physicist and household name Professor Brian Cox has been confirmed as a keynote speaker for March. In line with the goals of the Education Show itself, he will help to inspire educators and stimulate 21st-century learning.

The School Leaders Summit – a free, two-day conference – has been developed as a result of intensive research with more than 100 heads, governors, business managers and leaders from across the country. As such, school leaders and management teams will be able to discuss the issues of most significance to schools at the moment. These will include using technology to enhance learning, innovating teaching and learning, designing a fair and effective teacher appraisal policy and achieving successful communication with staff, pupils and parents.

Alongside this, the Education Show continues to lead the way in terms of the variety and value of the CPD on offer. More than 120 free-to-attend seminars, workshops and discussion sessions will run over the show’s three days, offering something for everyone. From practical ‘how do I…?’ sessions to inspiring technology workshops, specific teaching practice and whole school topics will be addressed. Those educators who wish to share their best practice with others by leading a CPD session at the show, can apply now online at www.education-show.com.

As technology becomes commonplace throughout our lives, its impact on education has not gone unnoticed. To help educators get to grips with how to harness its potential, the innovative new ‘technology in education’ feature will house a seminar theatre and demonstration island. Teachers at all levels will be able to get hands on with the latest and greatest technology for education, have their questions answered by the experts and come away with a new confidence for implementing education technology.

As the UK’s leading education resources event, the Education Show also offers a valuable opportunity for visitors to stay on top of their resource investment by bringing together more than 350 innovative education suppliers under one roof. Visitors can try and test a range of products and services and establish which ones are best for them, from whole-school solutions to best-value classroom resources.
