Little Gleddings nursery opens its doors

Situated in woodland at The Gleddings Preparatory School, the nursery caters for babies and children aged from six months to three years

The Gleddings, a West Yorkshire preparatory school, has welcomed the first cohort of young children to its new nursery.

Little Gleddings sits in a secluded woodland area of its coeducational parent school, and opened its doors to babies and children aged from six months to three years.

“We have seen a huge demand from families looking for a school that enables a seamless transition from nursery though to prep school,” explained head of The Gleddings, Jill Wilson.

The modular cabin was designed and built by school specialist architects, TG Escapes, and offers easy access to the outdoors. It has a covered decking to facilitate free flow between inside and out.

The environmentally-friendly timber-framed building has been combined with sustainably sourced wood and glass.

Before the build, the school conducted a bat survey to ensure the bats would not be disturbed.

Facilities for pupils include a mud kitchen, water play equipment, stage area and forest school.

Day-to-day running of the nursery is being overseen by long-time Gleddings staff member, Tess Turczak.

“I believe that learning experiences from birth give each child the knowledge, skills and attributes to enable success, personal and academic, at school and for life,” added Wilson.

“At Little Gleddings we aim to provide the best early learning to ensure each child becomes as resilient, capable, confident, self-assured and independent as possible, with learning habits that will underpin their future happiness and wellbeing in terms of family, learning and community.”
