The Loretto Golf Academy has won the inaugural Desert Springs European Schools Team Championships in the Almeria region of south-east Spain held on 16/17/18 February.
The competition, organised jointly by the exclusive Desert Springs Golf resort and Millfield School, was an open event to all schools in the UK, and attracted a total of 19 teams of four players from schools such as Wellington, Bradfield, Reeds, Durham and hosts Millfield.
Loretto finished first and second in a very close final day, with 16-year-old John-Paul Ralph from Prenton in Cheshire winning the individual gross and net with a level par final round in a very strong field with handicaps ranging from +3.
Rick Valentine, Director of Golf at Loretto, said: “It was a fantastic way to start the season, rewarding the players for all the hard work through the winter. This new event is a great addition to our tournament schedule.”
