Malvern College Hong Kong prepares for 2017 launch event

Founding Head of Malvern College Hong Kong says he will establish a British style of education to ‘inspire and empower’ pupils

Ahead of its launch event, Malvern College has announced that the Founding Head of its world-class new school in Hong Kong for 1,000 pupils, will be Dr Robin Lister. Robin is the current Senior Deputy Head of Malvern College and a former Harvard student and St Andrew’s university lecturer with over 30 years’ experience in international education.

Robin has overseen many new and ambitious developments during his time at Malvern College in the UK. These include playing a leading role in establishing its five international schools, providing outstanding academic and pastoral oversight for the College’s 650 pupils and managing a team of 120 academic staff, preparing the UK and international schools for inspections, and guiding sixth form girls and boys through their applications to leading universities.

“Robin is uniquely qualified and experienced to develop and lead our new sister school in Hong Kong. He is passionate about the Malvern approach to education – traditional but forward-looking combined with values of strong character, self-confidence and service to the community,” said Antony Clark, Headmaster of Malvern College.

The new Hong Kong campus is Malvern College’s latest addition to its growing family of international schools and will be the second British independent school to be established in Hong Kong, after Harrow International School Hong Kong which opened in September 2012.

Malvern College Hong Kong will be a seven storey state-of-the-art campus designed specifically with Malvern College’s culture, ethos and philosophy in mind. It will be conveniently situated just twenty minutes from the central business district near the Hong Kong Science & Technology Park and close to the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Pupils will benefit from stunning facilities such as a concert-hall quality auditorium, a black-box studio theatre, an indoor six-lane 25 metre swimming pool, a large sports hall and a floodlit all-weather sports pitch.

“It is a great privilege to be invited to become the Founding Head of this remarkable new school,” said Robin, who will be joined in Hong Kong by his wife Deborah. “I look forward to opening our doors from September 2017 and getting to know our dedicated and experienced teachers, supportive parents and above all our ambitious new students.”

“Together we will provide a British style of education for the local and expatriate community. By combining academic excellence complemented with an array of creative and sporting opportunities, we will inspire and empower pupils to exceed their expectations and to fulfil their potential,” concluded Robin.

The launch of Malvern College Hong Kong will take place Wednesday 22nd February at 6.30pm – 8.30pm and includes guest speaker, Dominic Sandbrook, who was educated at Malvern College from 1988 to 1993 and is one of Britain’s best-known historians. To attend the event RSVP to international@malverncollege.org.uk.
