Malvern College has announced the opening of its seventh overseas school in Tokyo, Japan. The school is set to open in 2023.
Malvern College Tokyo is located 40 minutes outside of central Tokyo in the suburb of Kodaira and will provide 950 places to both Japanese and expatriate pupils from Years 1 to 9.
The opening of the Tokyo school brings the number of campuses in the institution’s ranks to 10. Malvern’s three UK schools are located in Worcestershire, with overseas schools in Qingdao, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Cairo and Switzerland.
The school will adopt the International Baccalaureate (IB) as its core curriculum and intends to obtain status as an IB World School. The school has expressed ambitions to be the leading international school in Tokyo and will be the first British-branded all-through IB school in Japan.
Kodaira is an area in Greater Tokyo known for its notable architecture and the famous Koganei Park, home to numerous cherry blossom trees. The area is home to noteworthy educational institutions Hitotsubashi University and Tsuda University.
Allan Walker, director of International Schools for Malvern College, expressed “delight” to be opening the school’s Tokyo branch, especially after the successful opening of campuses in China and Hong Kong.
He continued: “Each of our international schools offers a holistic education which is centred around a recognised international curriculum. It is especially important to us that we incorporate the values and ethos of Malvern College in our schools as we believe that it is these values which will best prepare our pupils for success in today’s increasingly globalised society”.
Malvern College Tokyo will open in partnership with Babylon Education, making it the institution’s second all-through IB school after Malvern College Hong Kong.
