New St Swithun’s Junior School opens its doors

Staff at St Swithun’s welcomed pupils to the brand new school building which has opened its doors for the first time

The new junior school at St Swithun’s replaces the existing school buildings and enables the Junior School to have smaller class sizes. The development includes specialist teaching rooms, a science laboratory, an art studio, a media/computing room and in the next phase, which is underway, a new performing arts space and gym.

The school is a light, bright, modern space with expanses of glass allowing views over the trees and fields beyond. Internally, the light wood finishes, oak floors and white walls complement the contemporary furniture. Outdoors, the school is surrounded by beautiful naturalistic planting with the new sports courts and playing fields beyond.

The new performing arts space and gym will open in Easter 2016. In the meantime, pupils will use the existing hall and gym.

Headmistress, Pim Grimes, says: “The new school is a wonderful building to work and learn in. We have spent the summer preparing and are delighted to have such a wonderful facility for the children. The light floods into the building bringing the outside in. We have state of the art facilities and are very proud of what we have achieved; St Swithun’s Junior School is a spectacular place to be.”
