Oundle School cricketer represents in annual match

16-year-old Simon Fernandes was recently selected to compete in MCC School’s match against England Schools Cricket Association

Simon was chosen from a pool of over 2500 schoolboys, to represent Oundle School and Marlborough Cricket Club Schools in their annual match against England Schools Cricket Association at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The MCC Schools team consisted of schoolboys who had played against MCC during the 2016 cricket season and whose names had been put forward by M.C.C Match Managers as good cricketers, in addition to being players who would make good representatives of the Club.

It was an honour to play at Lord’s and the whole experience was amazing

After a briefing participants received a tour of the ground followed by net sessions with M.C.C Team Manager and Coach before the 50 over game on 6th September.

The match was won by ECSA who scored 260 runs with MCC falling short by about 50 runs.

Simon commented, “It was an honour to play at Lord’s and the whole experience was amazing. We had two full-on days at Lord’s including training and I loved every moment of it, it. Even playing as 12th man I would like to think I made some contribution taking a catch and I would like to thank Oundle’s Head of Cricket, Mr Crawley for applying and helping me get this great opportunity.”
