Pupils bury time capsule to mark 125th Anniversary

A fidget spinner and a minion were among the items buried for posterity!

Pupils from Brentwood Preparatory School took part in a piece of history on 3rd July as they joined their Headmaster Jason Whiskerd, Senior School Headmaster Ian Davies, Bursar Matthew Davis, Governor Emeritus Colin Finch, and Governors, The Venerable David Lowman and Jenny Jones, for the burying of two special time capsules.

The event was organised as part of the Prep125 celebrations to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Preparatory School. The time capsules contain items such as their current uniform, the School magazine, photographs, maths equipment, a fidget spinner, a minion toy and some coins.

Colin Finch buries time capsules

Pupils represented each of the 12 Headmasters and Headmistresses from Miss Brimley in 1892 to Mr Whiskerd today with a short account of how the world looked during their tenures. Following that, the Venerable David Lowman led the crowd in prayer and everyone sang ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ as the sun appeared in the Walled Garden for the burial of the capsules by Colin Finch.

Jason Whiskerd read out the inscription on the plaque attached to the wall above the burial site, which included the instruction to future pupils to dig up the capsule 25 years from now during the 150th Anniversary, and the question: “How will the School have changed in a quarter of a century?”
