Rydal Penrhos’ swimming squad travelled to Llandudno on Friday, November 17 for the Urdd Conwy Regional Championships, putting in a “superb effort” in order to achieve individual and relay honours.
There were a total of three individual qualifiers from the event after a highly competitive day of action, with Year 4 pupil Nathan Richards and the Year 6 duo of Matthew Johnson and Liam Farrell all booking their place at the Cardiff showcase.
A number of Rydal Penrhos’ relay squads will also be making the trip to South Wales, which includes the team of Ethan Akroyd, Liam Farrell, James Gilman, Cieran Milligan, William Rutherford and Matthew Johnson.
‘There is plenty to look forward to with this current group as they look to emulate Rydal Penrhos teams of years gone by.”
Also securing success were the foursome of Nathan Richards, Jorgie Lynch, Dominic Chamberlain and Jorvan Toor, while the girls’ team of Ellie Knight, Lily Copeland, Agatha Favill and Martha-Rose Johnson did enough to make it to the Urdd National Championships, which will be held in the New Year.
Head of Swimming Maciej Ruszkowski, said: “This was another superb effort from our young squad, who coped with the pressure of performing extremely well and deserved their place in the national finals.
“We have a rich history of success at the Urdd Championships in recent years, and there is plenty to look forward to with this current group as they look to emulate Rydal Penrhos teams of years gone by.”
