School holds ‘Chocolate Week’

The meaning of fair trade and the science behind chocolate were on the menu during a recent workshop at a Scottish school

Years six and seven at Loretto Junior School in Musselburgh took part in a chocolate workshop run by Chocolate by Design. Over the course of the workshop, they learned about the history of the cocoa bean, the health-giving properties of chocolate (when eaten in moderation) and the science behind chocolate-making. They also learned about fair trade. In the afternoon they were given a collaborative design task using tempered chocolate.
