The school team was ranked overall winners at the ‘Just for Schools’ British Showjumping National Championships

The St Margaret’s School for Girls’ equestrian team has jumped themselves to victory in the recent ‘Just For Schools’ British Showjumping National Championships held from 8th-13th August in Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, winning the overall UK schools league title.

The team of five riders, Marcy Bryce, Jessica Fox, Charley Hamilton, Natasha Hamilton and Catherine Ross, in various team combinations competed and were named ‘Just for Schools’ British Show Jumping National Champions in the 1.10m class, Reserve Champions, coming 2nd in 80cm and 90cm classes, and 3rd in the 1m class. These results meant the team was ranked overall UK schools champions.

St Margaret’s also had riders compete in individual showjumping classes to great success. Amongst numerous other placings, Charley was Individual National Champion in the 1.10m and 90cm individual classes, while Jessica was Individual National Champion in the 1m class.

Anna Tomlinson, Head of St Margaret’s School for Girls, said, “Our equestrian team has made us truly proud in what has been a challenging year of training and competing for the whole team. In particular, despite Catherine breaking her arm earlier in the year, she continued her lead as team captain, encouraging the other riders and recovered well to take part in this event.”

“The girls have demonstrated an ethos of excellent sportsmanship and a dedication towards the competitive equestrian discipline,” continued Anna. “We would like to take this opportunity to mark and celebrate their successes at a national level.”

Catherine Ross, Team Captain, added, “Being my last year as Captain I would personally like to thank the school for their support, as well as all parents involved, particularly my mum Jenny for taking on the initial role of team manager – we could not have achieved this without them all.”
