State of the art facility for Hove prep school

Lancing Preparatory School, Hove is successful in planning application for new multi-purpose building

Lancing Prep at Hove has been successful in its planning application for a new multi-purpose building designed for full community use, as well as school use. This facility will meet the school’s needs for a high quality building providing state-of-the-art space for assemblies, dining, indoor sports and music and drama performances. It will also be available to members of the community for meetings, performances and indoor sport. Work will start in July 2016 and is scheduled for completion in July 2017.

Lancing Prep Hove has been graded Excellent by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (2015) in recognition of the quality and range of teaching that it provides. There is a growing demand for school places in Hove, and this new building will ensure that the school, which currently accommodates two hundred and seventy pupils, is able to meet future demand. It now has capacity to increase its pupil numbers to three hundred, and its teaching staff from twenty five to twenty seven.

Welcoming the planning approval, Alan Laurent, Headmaster at the school, said: “I am delighted to be able to share this exciting news with parents and pupils. Lancing Prep at Hove is a thriving and successful school for girls and boys aged 3 to 13 years and this new multi-purpose building will enable us to provide improved facilities for an increased number of pupils in the coming years. At the same time, we will also take the opportunity to upgrade the classrooms and other areas within the existing buildings. We shall provide updates and information over the coming months.”

The new energy efficient, two-storey building will be set back from the road, to the right of the existing school entrance. It will include a multi-purpose school hall, changing rooms and kitchen, a small gallery and foyer space. There will be a reconfigured school car park to enable more efficient parking.

Dominic Oliver, Headmaster of Lancing College, said: “We look forward the new hall being of benefit to our pupils and parents as well as the wider local community. Lancing Prep at Hove is an important part of the Lancing College family of schools and investing in these facilities will ensure that we can offer the best possible early education to our growing number of pupils. High quality creative and sporting opportunities are essential elements of the Lancing experience and are critical to developing the overall excellence we strive to provide across all our schools.”

The building has been designed by the award-winning architects HazleMcCormackYoung LLP (HMY), who specialise in the highest quality modern architecture: beautiful, sustainable and intelligent buildings. Working closely with their clients, they develop innovative and flexible solutions for teaching in schools, to achieve happy, effective learning environments. To date HMY has been directly involved with over 180 education projects.

From summer 2017, when the new building is completed, Lancing Prep Hove will start a programme of work to the main school building to provide improved classrooms, staff facilities, reception/administration areas and storage space.
