The March issue of IE is out!

In our biggest ever issue of Independent Education Today we put the spotlight on Hurtwood House, find out headteachers’ plans post-Brexit and review edtech event Bett

It may be true that ‘money makes the world go round’ but there are many schools that are doing their best to ensure that money doesn’t stand in the way of an excellent education.

In this month’s rather large issue (our biggest yet… but more on that later), Steve Wright discusses whether scholarships and bursaries are really the antidote to rising school fees, and how they are breaking barriers to education.

I was surprised to find out how many pupils have financial assistance in some form or another. The Independent Schools Council says: “A third of pupils at ISC schools are on reduced fees and about 6,000 pupils pay no fees at all.” In 2018, Scotland’s Dollar Academy supported over 70 pupils, amounting to a total of over £700,000. Read more on this fascinating topic on page 29.

The beautiful image on our front cover this month is of Hurtwood House, an independent sixth form college and the first school to take part in our new School Spotlight feature. Head to page 24 for more.

I am excited to tell you that this issue of Independent Education Today is the biggest ever! We’re growing more and more, as well as developing in other areas such as webinars. In February I hosted a webinar in partnership with SIS Pitches on synthetic sports pitches. If you missed it, you can still watch it on demand; see the video section on our homepage.

I hope you enjoy the issue.
