Tolkien talk inspires pupils

The Queen’€™s school in Cheshire celebrates world book day with a visit from J.R.R Tolkien’s great grandson

To mark World Book Day, The Queen’s School in Cheshire welcomed Flintshire-based Royd Tolkien, great-grandson of ‘The Hobbit’ writer J.R.R Tolkien.

Royd, who currently runs his own film production company, delivered several talks about the Tolkien books and legacy to all year groups at the Senior School, as well as his roles in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films.

The event was intended to inspire pupils to continue reading the books, and to develop their own creative writing.

The Queen’s School’s Librarian, Gilly Mayes, said: “The girls loved the opportunity to talk to Royd personally, and to get the chance to ask him loads of questions about the books and films was really exciting. He even brought in ‘Hobbit’ feet from the film set!”
