At the recent Millfield Ten Schools Championships, athletes from Wellington School braved adverse weather conditions to triumph across the board.
The Wellington boys overall came first overall with 407 points, beating the next school by a whopping 58 points. The girls came a superb second overall after Millfield. Individually, the U17 and U16 boys also beat all opposition, coming in first place, whilst the O16 and U16 girls came in second.
Headmaster, Henry Price, comments: “I am delighted our athletes performed so well in such adverse conditions. Their team spirit, good humour and sense of co-operation across all year groups turned a challenging afternoon into a festival of achievement.
“There were some outstanding individual performances and as ever, some unsung heros who stepped up to the mark at the last minute.”
The athletics triumph is echoed in the school’s cricket results, with all teams performing strongly this season and winning every block fixture. The addition of expert coaches such as ex England Women’s cricketer Caroline Foster and ex England Hockey Coach Greg Durston has further strengthened the overall sporting offering, under Director of Sport and Wellbeing, Steffan Jones’ expert guidance.
Henry Price concluded: “The success of our athletics and cricket squads reflects the focus on the physical wellbeing of all pupils in the school. Success in fixtures is a welcome by-product of the school-wide programme of increased levels of fitness and trying to build a healthy lifestyle that will benefit pupils at school and beyond. We are delighted that the results are improving in a relatively short period of time and we will continue to deliver wellbeing sessions as part of our overall sporting offering. Congratulations to all our pupils across all sports on a rewarding season so far.”
