Creative Quarter event offers young people a chance to meet professionals at UK's leading science and art institutions

London venues The V&A, Natural History Museum, Imperial College, Science Museum, Royal Albert Hall, Christie’s South Kensington and Institut Français are inviting young people considering careers in the creative industries to a day of talks, workshops and behind the scenes tours on 13 November.

Creative Quarter 2015 in South Kensington will host thousands of students between the ages of 13 and 19, giving them the chance to explore career options at a day of free events.  The day is designed to showcase the latest developments in the creative industries, and give an overview of the different education and career paths available.

Creative industries are now five percent of the UK economy and the sector grew almost 10% in 2013, outperforming all other sectors of UK industry. Encouraging students to step into a career in the creative industries has never been more important. 

Over 45 events are on offer, with talks, workshops and behind the scenes tours covering design, architecture, publishing, fashion, music and drama, science and technology. Topics range from the cinema industry to cutting-edge scientific research and computer coding, with many introduced by leading professionals in their field. Christie’s South Kensington will open their doors and run a mock auction with students, giving them a flavour of the busiest saleroom in the UK, holding over 100 sales a year. 

Emily Candler, Executive Director at Exhibition Road Cultural Group, commented:  “South Kensington was founded to inspire the next generation of designers, engineers, scientists, musicians and artists. Creative Quarter is a great opportunity to hear from people in a wide range of creative careers.  

“Eighty per cent of the young people who attended Creative Quarter last year said they were more interested in the creative careers as a result. For the tenth Creative Quarter event, we have another great programme of events, giving young people the chance to create, explore and discover for themselves what creative jobs are really like.”
