Education design

Places of learning, discovery, research and play must be progressive and collaborative. The collaboration begins with our designers and project stakeholders. Together we explore new ways to provide inspirational spaces that invite innovation and promote wellbeing and joy. Spaces that are sustainable, connected and have the capacity to evolve.

Scott Brownrigg’s education team works internationally to create well-considered teaching and learning environments that inspire. We believe that good design is not about imposing a solution, but comes through working together to develop the optimum answer. Our process involves listening, helping you develop a brief and exploring options with stakeholders at all levels. In response, we design buildings that make the most of the brief and turn constraints into opportunities.

We understand that the design of a school must be driven as much by the functions within and the preferred pedagogical approach as the external design concept. Our approach places careful consideration on future requirements and the changing education landscape as well as a developing curriculum offer. As such, buildings must be capable of providing long-term adaptability, allowing teaching methods to change, as well as short-term flexibility allowing teachers to adjust their space to suit. The external design generates the first impression of the school and is a direct reflection of the brand.

Recent international education experience has involved proposals in over 10 countries including China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Nigeria and Bulgaria. Scott Brownrigg is currently working with independent schools in the UK and overseas on projects with a range of roles including the following:

  • Existing estates and facilities review
  • Estates strategy development
  • Masterplanning
  • Concept to detailed design and construction
  • Interior design
  • Site monitoring
  • Masterplan review
  • Design review
