Following earlier confirmation of his appointment, Mark Mortimer will be taking up his responsibilities as the new headmaster of Bryanston School from 1 September 2019. Currently headmaster of Warminster School, he will succeed Sarah Thomas, who retires this summer after 14 years at the school.
According to Julian Greenhill, chair of governors at Bryanston: “Mark has the vision, energy, and experience to embrace and nurture Bryanston’s distinctive educational values. Such qualities will enable him to build upon the exceptional work of Sarah and her predecessors ,and lead the school forward to even greater success through the next stage of its life.”

The third Bryanston Education Summit, drawing in teachers and educationalists from all over the South West, is set to take place at Bryanston School. ‘Revolution; the future of learning in a changing world’ will focus on many of the most significant issues facing the teaching profession, parents and pupils, and feature a host of prominent speakers and contributors.

Mortimer becomes the seventh head of Bryanston since its formation in 1928. Prior to joining Warminster School, he was deputy head at St John’s School in Leatherhead, head of sixth form at Hampton School and head of history at Giggleswick School. As well as having considerable interest in the arts, he is a keen sportsman, having twice rowed across the Atlantic and completed the Marathon des Sables footrace across the Sahara.
