New sports director aims to increase pupil participation

With the aim of increasing participation of pupils and improving levels of sporting excellence, Loughborough Schools Foundation has appointed a new director of sport

Joanna Hackett took up her new role in September, after being director of sport at Northampton High School. She will work in all five schools across the Foundation – Loughborough Nursery, Fairfield Prep School, Loughborough Amherst School, Loughborough Grammar School and Loughborough High School – and the wider community.

Her goal is to offer equal opportunities to sport and exercise to ensure pupils can achieve the highest possible performance levels during their school life.

Hackett said: “My personal philosophy for teaching is maximum participation within and outside the classroom. I believe this enables pupils to realise their full potential, and that all pupils are offered equal opportunities to be involved.

“One of my most valuable assets as a leader is my ability to motivate the pupils and staff. This, along with my experience, subject knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise, will enable me to contribute positively to the future development of sport within the Loughborough Schools Foundation.”

Andrew Earnshaw, headmaster at Fairfield Prep, added: “We’re delighted to announce Joanna as the Foundation’s director of sport and we look forward to starting work with her to build upon the impressive range of opportunities and our successful sporting achievements across the foundation.

“Joanna joins us with a wide range of experiences having developed a great reputation at Northampton High School and we’re sure that she will be able to complement our existing team of sports teachers.” Since taking up her role at Northampton High School in 2011, Hackett has also been a member of the Sport Matters Committee, which is responsible for the organisation of sport and sporting competitions for 25 associate schools.
