Children from Hunter Hall School in Penrith took part in the Penrith Rotary Club Swimathon in February to raise money for the Ankoma Outreach charity.
The Ankoma Outreach is a non-for-profit organisation which supports a small village in the Kwahu District in Ghana. The aim of the charity is to help the people of Ankoma fight poverty. They work in the local primary school, the health clinic and throughout the community.
On 31st March one of the founders of the charity, Asha Richardson visited Hunter Hall School and was presented with £232.70 raised by the children. Together they swam a total of 268 lengths in 50 minutes to raise the money.
It costs £9 per child for a year’s tuition in the Kwahu District, so the money raised by the children at Hunter Hall will enable 25 children to attend school.
In September 2018 the charity is bringing six Ghanaian children on an adventure to the UK for a month. Hunter Hall will be a host school for their visit and the visiting children will visit the school, spend time in lessons and join in school life.
