Stamford student competes with England rugby

SES student represents country at Commonwealth Youth Games

A recent leaver from Stamford School, George Cox, has been in Samoa with Team England, competing in Rugby 7s at the Commonwealth Youth Games 2015.

George Cox was part of the Fist XV team at Stamford School. Last year, the team went unbeaten in their season, and George helped get them to the Semi-Finals of the NatWest Schools Cup. He was recently chosen to join Team England at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Part of the team’s time in Samoa was spent playing rugby with disadvantaged and disabled Samoan children. The team have donated items of kit to these schools and George took a couple of Stamford rugby shirts with him, so a Spede bird will remain in Samoa after he leaves.

On his return from Samoa, George has signed with Nottingham Rugby for the upcoming season. Maria Cox, George’s mother, has said: “George has had an amazing couple of weeks. It has been a joy to see him fulfil his dream of playing for England and on such fantastic world stage.”
