Taunton School appoints new head

Taunton deputy headmaster Lee Glaser will take over from Dr John Newton as headmaster of the Somerset school in January

The board of governors of Taunton School has announced that, after an extensive recruitment process from a strong field of candidates, it has appointed Lee Glaser as headmaster of Taunton School from 1 January 2015. This follows the recent announcement that the current headmaster, Dr John Newton, is leaving at the end of December to take up the position as principal of Scotch College, Adelaide, South Australia.

Jane Barrie, chair of governors, describes Mr Glaser as “a senior leader of outstanding ability and judgment”. She adds: “I am looking forward to Mr Glaser leading our distinguished school with a clear strategy and progressing our vision. He will confidently ensure the highest standards of education and opportunities for all our pupils. He will support our young adults, enabling them to progress in higher education and employment with the skills to support this important stage and further development through life. Mr Glaser has served with distinction as deputy headmaster of Taunton School for the past five years.”

Lee Glaser comments: “I am delighted and honoured to be asked to lead Taunton School. It is a wonderful place with huge significance in my life. I am looking forward to building on John Newton’s excellent work. In a time of educational change, my colleagues and I are passionate about inspiring and challenging young people to achieve great things.”
