More than 100 former pupils enjoyed events ranging from sports challenges to music workshops

Rydal Penrhos hosted its annual Founders’ Weekend festivities on the weekend of September 23-24, with a host of activities marking the occasion.

A large number of alumni were given a tour of the grounds to see their old haunts and witness the changes that have transpired at the school since their departure, with a number of pupils were on hand to answer any questions.

A new addition to the schedule saw the Old Boys challenge Rydal Penrhos first XI hockey side, and the alumni managed to secure a comfortable victory to get their hands in the inaugural trophy.

The Natalie Kate Moss trophy was up for grabs as the Old Girls took on the school’s First VII and XI netball and hockey teams for the coveted honour, and the returning group managed to triumph after a pair of hugely competitive contests.

Those with a taste for music were treated to a Choir Workshop, run by Director of Music Pete Williams and the Rydal Penrhos Community Choir.

Attention then turned to the 1990s reunion dinner at St George’s Hall, where those in attendance were treated to a lavish three-course meal and danced the night away to music from the era.

It was fantastic to welcome so many former pupils back to Rydal Penrhos, with more than 100 alumni taking part

Sunday brought with it the highly anticipated Vikings clash between rugby stars past and present, and the veterans managed to make it a clean sweep of trophies from the weekend with a hard-fought victory.

Alumni and Development director, Sarah Ritchie, said: “It was fantastic to welcome so many former pupils back to Rydal Penrhos, with more than 100 alumni taking part in activities over the course of the weekend.

“It was wonderful to see so many members of the Rydal Penrhos family, including current pupils, parents, staff, governors and alumni, come together to celebrate the founders of Penrhos College and Rydal School and to enjoy a busy weekend of sporting fixtures, music, reminiscing and socialising.

“Thank you to everyone who supported this event, which continues to grow each year.”
