DLD College London students were recently invited to the Financial Times (FT) head office for an invaluable insight into a career with an iconic international publication.

The students form part of the Alpha Scholars, and also members of the Bigger Picture Society (a Faculty of Social Science initiative). The Alpha Scholars are amongst the most talented students at the college and are educated on a unique programme of study that seeks to develop the strengths of those eager to become change-makers and leaders.

The academic society from the Westminster-bridge based college, had the valuable opportunity to visit the London offices of the highly prestigious financial title, for a series of workshops on leadership.

During their visit, the enthusiastic students listened and engaged with several key speakers including FT Managing Director, Caspar de Bono, taking notes, and asking questions about their careers and working at the FT. The students sought expert knowledge and opinion on various facets of working in journalism, and spent time receiving specialist advice on tailoring their cover letters and curricula vitae.

The trip presented the students with the opportunity to get a first-hand look at how the esteemed corporation is organised. The visit finished with an inspiring session led by Mr John Ridding, CEO at the Financial Times.

Principal Rachel Borland commented, “The value of the experience which the students have had cannot be overstated. At DLD College London we are always looking for new ways to help our students to progress; this trip was highly insightful and a perfect opportunity to help prepare them for their future careers.”
