The new boarding houses are eco-friendly and have been designed by David Morley Architects

Wycombe Abbey will officially open two new boarding houses with an opening ceremony today.

The ceremony will be attended by members of the school’s governing council, staff, parents and pupils and will mark the completion of the first stage in the School’s boarding renewal plan. The school’s ambitious vision aims to provide the best possible contemporary living and social spaces for the benefit of every pupil at Wycombe Abbey.

The new houses are now home to more than 100 girls and six members of staff, along with their families. The accommodation offers both single rooms and dormitories for up to four pupils. Each room has ensuite facilities and the building also comprises two living rooms, two kitchens, six study rooms and four music practice rooms.

Designed by David Morley Architects as an eco-friendly building, the conjoined houses draw up heat from a ground source heat pump, reducing energy consumption by 13% and carbon emissions by 18%.

Headmistress Rhiannon Wilkinson said, “I am thrilled that the new boarding houses are now finally complete. I know the girls have been very excited about moving in at the start of this new academic year. The houses are a stunning addition to the school site and provide outstanding facilities which will serve many generations of Wycombe Abbey girls.”
