Staff appointments: September 2021

Independent Education Today congratulates the following on their recent appointments

St Andrew’s School

Ed Graham

 

St Andrew’s School in Pangbourne welcomes Ed Graham as its new headmaster this September. Graham leaves Westminster Cathedral Choir School in London, as deputy head, after nine years. During this time, he has been head of English, head of sport, led on pastoral provision, and taught history and ancient Greek.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining St Andrew’s in September 2021, and look forward to building on the outstanding education the school offers and continuing the school’s goal of nurturing children to be happy, healthy citizens.”

 

Brabyns Preparatory School

Lyndsay McKenna

 

Brabyns Preparatory School has appointed Lindsay McKenna as its new headteacher, joining this September. McKenna leaves Altrincham Preparatory School for Boys as acting head, where she has taught since 2008. She was educated at the University of the West of Scotland, where she achieved a first-class teaching degree.

McKenna said: “I am dedicated to building opportunities for students to achieve their highest academic standards, ensuring that they are recognised as individuals and that their unique personalities, talents and interests are nurtured and developed to the full.”

 

Repton School

Ashley Currie

 

Repton School has appointed Ashley Currie as deputy head (academic) from September. Currie, who joins Repton from St John’s School, graduated from the University of Durham where he gained a master’s degree in theoretical physics. His career includes roles as head of mathematics alongside coaching and housemaster duties.

Currie said: “I look forward to contributing to the school’s rich heritage, working with the academic team to enhance every aspect of pupils’ learning and building on the examination and higher education success that Repton has enjoyed over the last 500 years.”

 

Badminton School

Heidi Pedlar

 

Badminton School has appointed Heidi Pedlar as head of the junior school from September. Pedlar joins Badminton School from Bristol Grammar School where she was assistant head (pastoral, daily operations) and designated safeguarding lead. Previous roles include head of juniors and head of pre-prep at Walhampton School, and head of juniors at Norman Court Prep School.

Pedlar has a BSc (Hons) in physical education, sports science and recreation management, and a MSc recreation management, in addition to a PGCE in primary education. Pedlar commented that she has been “taken aback by the warm and friendly nature of the school”.

 

Hereford Cathedral School

Dr Michael Gray

 

Dr Michael Gray has been appointed as headmaster of Hereford Cathedral School. Gray joins from Harrow School, where he began as head of politics and was most recently director of studies. He has also taught at Halliford School and St Edward’s School, Oxford. Gray graduated from King’s College London with a first in history, after which he completed a PGCE, followed by a master’s and PhD at the UCL Institute of Education.

Gray said: “There is an impressive momentum across the school as we look to realise Vision 2030 and ensure that all pupils are equipped to thrive in a changing world.” He joins the school this September.

 

Bickley Park School

Tammy Howard

 

Bickley Park School in Bromley has announced the appointment of Tammy Howard as its new headteacher, starting in January 2022. Howard is currently principal at Reddam House School in Berkshire. Following seven years as head of Waverley Prep School, she was recruited as head of junior and early learning schools at Reddam House before being promoted to principal in 2017.

Alongside a background in science and mathematics, having read physics at the University of Durham, Howard also brings experience of teaching internationally. She said she is “delighted” to build on the “outstanding reputation” of Bickley Park School.
